Also present were\u00a0<strong> Susana Closa<\/strong>, General Manager of the Barcelona Institute of Sports, former Secretaries for Sport and other prominent figures from the sector.<\/p>\n<p>The session began with an institutional greeting from\u00a0<strong>Kirsty Coventry<\/strong>, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), followed by an address by\u00a0<strong>Juan Antonio Samaranch Salisachs<\/strong>, IOC Vice-President, who focused his presentation on the future of Olympism and the challenges facing the Olympic Movement in a changing global context.<\/p>\n<p>One of the key themes of the session was public-private collaboration in the organisation of major sporting events, with contributions from\u00a0<strong>David Escud\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Ram\u00f3n Agenjo<\/strong>, Director of the Damm Foundation and President of Barcelona Global. The discussion analysed success stories, challenges and best practices aimed at maximising the social, economic and international impact of these events.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently,\u00a0<strong>Jordi Suri\u00f1ach<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Esther Vay\u00e1<\/strong>, members of the AQR-Lab Laboratory, presented the paper\u00a0<em>\u201cEconomic and social impact of hosting major sporting events\u201d<\/em>. The study, conducted by the University of Barcelona (UB), focused on analysing the effects of the 2024 America\u2019s Cup, held in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>The day continued with a presentation by\u00a0<strong>Ra\u00fal Chapado<\/strong>, President of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, who addressed\u00a0<em>\u201cFederation management in major sporting events\u201d<\/em>, sharing experiences, organisational challenges, institutional coordination and key lessons to ensure the success of large-scale competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0<strong>Maria Elena Fort<\/strong>, Vice-President of FC Barcelona, highlighted\u00a0<em>\u201cThe role of FC Barcelona in major sporting events\u201d<\/em>, underlining the club\u2019s influence as a strategic actor in Barcelona\u2019s international projection and its social impact beyond the purely sporting sphere.<\/p>\n<p>The event was closed by\u00a0<strong>Berni \u00c1lvarez<\/strong>, Minister for Sports of the Government of Catalonia, who emphasised the Olympic Forum\u2019s role as a well-established platform for reflection on the present and future of sport and Olympism, reaffirming the institutional commitment to the development of sustainable major sporting events with a lasting legacy.<\/p>\n<p>The first day of the Forum was moderated by journalist\u00a0<strong>Jordi Fandi\u00f1o<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We look forward to seeing you tomorrow, 15 January, for the second session: mind and performance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>16th Olympic Forum \u2013 Rom\u00e0 Cuy\u00e0s Memorial<\/strong>\u00a0will continue tomorrow, 15 January, at 5:30 pm with a second session focused on mental performance and sport.
