Federico Moncunill Gallo donates the documentation of the Athletes’ Chapel of Santa Anna to the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica.

The Fundació Barcelona Olímpica has received a visit from Federico Moncunill Gallo, who has donated the documentation belonging to his grandfather, Federico Gallo Franco, the driving force behind the project for the Athletes’ Chapel (Capilla de los Deportistas) in the church of Santa Anna in Barcelona and chairman of the board of trustees for the construction of the chapel.

The documentation provides a first-hand account of the origins and development of the project. It includes correspondence, minutes, invoices, press clippings and original plans, among other materials. The donation was received by Francesc Terrón, director of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica.

All of this material will become part of the documentary archive of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica, managed and held by the Centre d’Estudis Olímpics i de l’Esport J.A. Samaranch.

Federico Gallo Franco chaired the board of trustees for the construction of the sports chapel and was for twenty-five years president of the Arca de Noé, a leisure and cultural association in Barcelona founded by Santiago Rusiñol. He was also vice-president of the Catalan Cycling Federation (Federació Catalana de Ciclisme). He was the father of the journalist and civil governor Federico Gallo Lacarcel.

The Fundació Barcelona Olímpica thanks Federico Moncunill Gallo for his generosity and trust, and for his contribution to preserving the memory of sport in Barcelona.
