Espais esportius que han fet història a Barcelona (Sporting Spaces that Made History in Barcelona)

Sport is an essential part of Barcelona’s DNA, and this publication aims to recover, preserve and highlight the historical memory of the sports venues that have shaped the city’s sporting identity.

The book offers a unique journey through time, uncovering more than 130 spaces linked to sports practice —including gyms, pavilions, facilities and urban spaces— from the late 19th century to the present day. These spaces help explain the evolution of sport in Barcelona and its close relationship with the city’s social and urban transformation.

The publication has been written by Joan Manuel Surroca, Juli Pernas, Luís Sánchez, Pedro Hernández and Raül Vázquez, who carried out extensive research to document and highlight this sporting heritage, often unknown to the general public.

This publication has been developed by the Centre d’Estudis Olímpics Joan Antoni Samaranch, managed by the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica, reinforcing its commitment to research and the dissemination of knowledge about sports history.

The book «Espais esportius que han fet història a Barcelona» is available at the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport de Barcelona for €15
