The Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport (Olympics and Sports Museum) is changing its name to: Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch (Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympics and Sports Museum)

With the presence of Maria Teresa Samaranch, authorities: Mr. Jordi Hereu, Mayor of Barcelona; Mr. Alejandro Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee; Mr. Pere Alcober, Chairman of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport has been renamed Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch.

Just as the Olympic Museum of Lausanne, the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport of Barcelona was an initiative that was highly supported by Juan Antonio Samaranch. In the belief of the importance of legacy for society, Samaranch drove the creation of an Olympic Museum in his city, Barcelona; the same city that today pays him homage by assigning his name to one of Juan Antonio Samaranch’s most beloved projects.

The Olympic Day ceremony concluded with a conference by Mr. Toni Bové, physical therapist at various editions of the Olympic Games; Mr. Cayetano Cornet, current Head of the Spanish Olympic Delegation; and Mr. Manel Ibern, former water polo player and coach. The conference was moderated by journalist Juan Manuel Surroca.

Afterwards, the winners of the 1st International Sports Watercolour Prize were announced and the Temporary Exhibition Room was inaugurated with an exhibition of Sports Watercolours.
